UGA Grady College ambassadors to present Rock it Out! benefit

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Grady College Ambassadors will host a Rock it Out! benefit concert on Wednesday, Feb. 17, starting at 9 p.m. at the 40 Watt Club, 285 W. Washington Street in Athens.

The concert will feature Athens musicians Allison Weiss, the Orkids, Creepy and the Incendiaries. All money raised will benefit Girls’ Rock, an organization whose weeklong summer camp builds female youth empowerment through music education and creation.

“All proceeds will go towards scholarships for girls who are unable to attend the 2010 summer camp unless they receive financial aid,” said Calley Payne, Girls’ Rock executive director. “The money will fund a girl’s attendance including food, supplies, insurance and instruction.”

Karli Figueroa, a Grady College ambassador majoring in advertising with a certificate in music business, said “Rock it Out! highlights Athens bands and encourages support for young women to pursue music and find their inner strength. This is the community’s opportunity to experience a high-energy concert while contributing to an important cause.”

Concert attendees also will be able to enter a raffle for the chance to win a Daisy Rock Guitar or gift cards to Athens businesses and restaurants.

Doors open at 9 p.m. and the show starts at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Starting Friday, Feb. 5, tickets will be on sale in the UGA Journalism Building, Room 207, daily from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tickets also will be for sale at the Tate Student Center Plaza on Monday and Tuesday Feb. 15 and 16, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
