UGA to celebrate Honors Week April 7-12

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia will celebrate outstanding students, faculty, staff and alumni at several events during Honors Week, April 7-12.

The tradition of Honors Week dates back to the 1930s, when UGA Chancellor S.V. Sanford set aside a day to recognize outstanding students. In 2011, Honors Day was expanded to a full week to accommodate the numerous events that occur in schools, colleges and other campus units.

“Honors Week is one of the many ways that we recognize that the strength of this institution lies in its people-the students, faculty, staff and alumni who excel in their academic pursuits,” said Pamela Whitten, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.

Public events during Honors Week include the Public Service and Outreach Meeting and Awards Luncheon and the 2014 UGA Alumni Awards Luncheon. Unless otherwise noted, other Honors Week events are by invitation only.
