Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia School of Law’s Equal Justice Foundation will host its 30th annual benefit auction Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Foundry in downtown Athens. The evening will include both live and silent auctions.
Proceeds from the event will go toward EJF summer fellowships, which help support Georgia Law students working in summer public interest positions for little or no compensation. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Items collected for this year’s auction include a weekend getaway at a mountain house, gift certificates and items from local restaurants and shops, professor-hosted activities for students outside the classroom and state bar exam preparation courses.
“This event is a fun way to spend a Saturday night, and it is also a way for the Athens community to help support law students who are working to make a difference in the public interest realm and for the organizations they serve,” said Chloe S. Ricke, a second-year law student and auction chair.
Last year, proceeds from the auction allowed EJF to award 10 fellowships to Georgia Law students working in public interest positions across the country. Some organizations where Georgia Law students have worked in the past include the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, The Bronx Defenders, Gideon’s Promise, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Humane Society and the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights.

The Equal Justice Foundation is a student-run organization devoted to the promotion of public interest law. EJF works to provide stipends for Georgia Law students who have chosen to work in unpaid, public interest positions over the summer.
