Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia College of Environment and Design is celebrating Historic Preservation Month by holding several events in April. The observance will be a month early to maximize participation on campus.

The exhibition, Fred J. Orr, Architect, Athens, GA., will be on display April 4-30 in the Circle Gallery, located in Room G14 of Caldwell Hall. There will be a reception, free and open to the public, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 4, at the Circle Gallery.

There also will be a preservation exhibition on display in the foyer of the Main Library for the month of April. On April 3, there will be a historic preservation information table at the Tate Student Center. And, on April 8, J. Myrick Howard, president of Preservation North Carolina, will give a lecture entitled "Buying Time for Heritage" at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel.

Historic Preservation Month aims to raise awareness and appreciation of the many historic houses, buildings, landscapes and districts on campus and in Athens. Activities will focus on appreciating these resources, preservation issues and the broader values of preservation. To close Historic Preservation Month at UGA and open May as National Historic Preservation Month, the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation will sponsor the 2008 Historic Home Tour, featuring houses designed by Orr on May 3.
