UGA will participate in the Georgia Statewide Severe Weather Drill on Feb. 6 at approximately 9 a.m. In conjunction with the drill, the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness will conduct a test of the UGA Alert system.

The National Weather Service will initiate the drill, and the Athens-Clarke County community and the University of Georgia will participate. Campus outdoor tornado sirens will be activated per normal drill procedures; however, NOAA weather radios will only display a test message and may not produce an audible alert. No all clear message will be sent after the test, so those participating in the drill can move to their shelter location when the test message is sent and then end the drill after accounting for personnel in individual buildings.

In case of inclement weather, the drill will be held on Feb. 8.

Departments unable to participate in the drill are asked to take a few moments at the beginning of a meeting to discuss where to go and what to do when a tornado warning is issued. Instructors are encouraged to take a few minutes at the beginning of class to discuss how the class would respond to a tornado warning and where they would go to seek shelter in their building.

Direct questions about the test of the UGA Alert system and the severe weather drill to OSEP at 706/542-5845 or by email at osep@uga.edu. To verify and update your UGA Alert information, see http://www.ugaalert.uga.edu.

After the drill, a short survey will be available at www.osep.uga.edu.
