Warnell School, UGA Community show generosity

Athens, Ga. – The faculty, staff, students and administration of the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources would like to thank all members of the Warnell School and UGA community, who donated much needed food, hygiene and medicinal items for about 1,300 firefighters battling Georgia’s largest ever-recorded wildfires. Transporting all of the donated items to the Georgia Forestry Association headquarters required a super-size SUV and full-size station wagon filled almost to capacity.

“We know the Warnell School and UGA community are very generous,” Warnell School Interim Dean Bob Warren said, “but we are amazed by how many individuals, and units, that took the time to purchase these donations and deliver them to the Warnell School.

“We can not thank the UGA community enough for their tremendous generosity, and hope all who donated items recognize how grateful the firefighters are to receive them.”

The Warnell School firefighter donation campaign is a vital part of the statewide donation campaign being coordinated by the Georgia Forestry Association.

The Graduate School, UGA Science Library, Complex Carbohydrate Research Center and family of former Warnell School Dean Leon A. Hargreaves, Jr. were among those helping to make this campaign successful.

The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia provides five degree path programs in forestry and natural resource science and management. These include the forestry, wildlife, fisheries and aquaculture, water and soil resources and the natural resource recreation and tourism programs. With more than fifty faculty and 23,000 acres of teaching lands, the Warnell School is the southeast’s oldest, and one of the most respected, forestry and natural resource education providers in the United States. The school also houses one of the largest study abroad programs in the nation to provide global learning opportunities for its students.
