Athens, Ga. - University of Georgia College of Environment and Design Associate Professor Alfie Vick has received the Team Water Award from the Athens Clarke-County Stormwater Division.
Presented at the recent annual Greenfest Awards Ceremony, the award recognized Vick for his on-going work in the Athens area and acknowledged his expertise in sustainable design, especially when meeting the challenges of stormwater management. The group also recognized Vick's willingness to participate in public outreach in Athens and "...to inspire others to find solutions for stormwater," according to the presentation remarks.
Vick teaches studios to both graduate and undergraduate students in CED, including classes on LEED Certification, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. A graduate of the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, Vick also holds a master of landscape architecture degree from UGA. Since joining the UGA CED faculty in 2004, Vick's classes have engaged in numerous service learning projects related to water resources in the Athens and Atlanta areas. He regularly publishes and makes presentations on water-related issues in both academic and public forums.
