UGA heat study guides new GHSA rules aiming to prevent exertional heat illness, deaths

High school student-athletes need about 10-14 days to acclimate their bodies to the heat stress in preseason practices in late July and August each year and gradual acclimatization to these conditions can help minimize the risk of exertional heat illnesses, or EHI, according to a three-year study by University of Georgia researchers.

UGA College of Education professor to receive award for publication

Julie A. Luft, who joined the faculty in January as the inaugural Athletic Association Professor of Mathematics and Science Education in the University of Georgia College of Education, has been named a recipient of a national award for a paper chosen as the most significant published in the Journal of Research in Science Teaching last year while she was on faculty at Arizona State University.

Two Clarke County School District administrators-Noris F. Price and Robert M. "Bud" Bierly-were recently recognized for their distinguished service to the field of supervision and leadership by the University of Georgia College of Education's educational administration and policy program. Price, associate superintendent of instructional services and school performance, and Bierly, assistant superintendent of human resources, each received a 2011 Johnnye V. Cox Award.
