UGA fall semester enrollment stands at 34,519

The University of Georgia's fall student enrollment is 34,519, the fifth consecutive year UGA enrollment has stood between 34,000 and 35,000. The figure is a 0.9 percent decrease, or 297 students fewer than last fall semester. Of the total enrollment, 8,071 are new to UGA-including incoming freshmen, transfers or graduate students.

Computer system intruders access UGA personnel information

An ongoing investigation into what officials call "a criminal act of computer trespass" reveals that the personnel records of at least 8,500 current and former University of Georgia employees apparently were accessed by an intruder, UGA Vice President for Information Technology Timothy M. Chester announced today.

University and contractor seek cause of breakage of four glass panes at Stegeman Coliseum

The University of Georgia and Choate Construction Company are examining the breakage of glass panes in four of the 358 panels on the facade of Stegeman Coliseum. Until the cause is determined and resolved, protective coverings have been placed over the entrances into the coliseum.

UGA President Adams announces plans to step down next year

University of Georgia President Michael F. Adams informed the campus today that he will step down as president at the conclusion of the next fiscal year. At the end of his 16 years in office on June 30, 2013, Adams will stand fifth in length of service among the university's 21 presidents, tied with founding president Abraham Baldwin.

Doyle named UGA vice president for government relations

J. Griffin Doyle, who has served as the University of Georgia’s director of federal relations since 2003, was appointed today to the position of vice president for government relations, President Michael F. Adams announced. Doyle has served as interim vice president since his predecessor, Steve W. Wrigley, was named executive vice chancellor of the University System of Georgia in July.

R.E.M. song, Chapel Bell headline UGA PSA produced by alumni

A song by the legendary Athens-based band R.E.M. and the iconic Chapel Bell will carry the message of the University of Georgia to national television audiences this fall in a new television spot produced by a group of UGA alumni. The 30-second public service announcement will air during all televised Georgia games, with its debut during ESPN's broadcast of the Georgia vs. Boise State Chick-fil-A Kick-Off Classic to be played at the Georgia Dome on Sept. 3.

Employees of WNEG-TV were informed of a staff reorganization today as the University of Georgia-owned station prepares for transition from a commercial station to a new public television station to be known as WUGA-TV and affiliated with Georgia Public Broadcasting.
