‘Americans in Italy’ film series to show at Georgia Museum of Art

The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will present the film series "Americans in Italy," in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name. The films shown will be Three Coins in the Fountain (Jan. 24), Summertime (Jan. 31) and Roman Holiday (Feb. 14). All films will begin at 7 p.m. in the museum's M. Smith Griffith Auditorium and are free and open to the public.

Retrospective by major African-American artist William H. Johnson to open at UGA’s GMOA

A new exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service will feature rare paintings by William H. Johnson from the collection of the James E. Lewis Museum at Morgan State University, at the Georgia Museum of Art from Feb. 16 to May 12.

Georgia Museum of Art to exhibit large, minimalist 1970s sculptures by De Wain Valentine

The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will present a definitive exhibition of large-scale works by the American sculptor De Wain Valentine Sept. 8-Jan. 27. The exhibition "De Wain Valentine: Human Scale" will feature eight translucent sculptures, most measuring between six and eight feet tall.

Georgia Museum of Art to screen films by John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg

The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will present an evening of films in conjunction with the exhibition "The New York Collection for Stockholm" Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The films will be shown in the M. Smith Griffith Auditorium and are free and open to the public.

Georgia Museum of Art to connect arts and sciences in Lunch and Learn fall exhibition

The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will present a lunch and learn event for faculty focusing on the intersections between science/engineering and art on Aug. 17 from 12-1 p.m. in the museum's Educational Outreach Center. Lynn Boland, Pierre Daura Curator of European Art, will address the importance of science and technology in the creation of works of art, focusing on three exhibitions on view at GMOA this fall semester, two of which will continue into spring semester.
