Pat Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of the Paley Center for Media and a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia, will be the speaker for UGA's combined undergraduate and graduate summer Commencement ceremony on Aug. 4 at 9:30 a.m. in Stegeman Coliseum.

Six University of Georgia faculty and staff members were honored by the UGA Office of International Education at its annual Faculty/Staff Awards reception held earlier this month. This annual event honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the university's internationalization. It also recognizes the many faculty and staff across campus who advance international education through their instruction, research, service, and through administrative and logistical support.

The University of Georgia Office of Sustainability and WUGA radio, along with the Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division, will host a "Recycling Happy Hour" on April 19 from 5-7 p.m. in the UGA intramural field parking lot off of College Station Road.

UGA receives third round of donated trees from Select SustainablePlus Tree Trust

More than 150 new trees have been planted on the University of Georgia campus in the last few months as part of a $1 million commitment from Oconee County wholesale nursery Select Trees through their charitable entity Select SustainablePlus Tree Trust. In the third year of the donation, the trees are being planted this year in honor of internationally-renown horticulturist and former UGA faculty member Michael Dirr and his wife, Bonnie.

UGA Career Center wins Chevron innovation award

The University of Georgia Career Center has received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Innovative Programs in the College Career Services Field from the Chevron Corporation and the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Called the Chevron Award, it is given in recognition and honor of a university for the development of a groundbreaking program in career services.

The University of Georgia Enterprise Information Technology Services will host its spring Computer Health and Security Fair April 11 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the second floor lobby of the Miller Learning Center. UGA students, faculty and staff are invited to bring their personal laptops for a free security checkup.

World-renowned biofuels expert to speak at UGA Charter Lecture

Lee R. Lynd, an international expert on utilization of plant biomass for the production of energy, will give the University of Georgia Charter Lecture on March 29 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel. He will address "The Sustainable Resource Transition: Systemic Change and Enabling the Improbable." A reception in Demosthenian Hall will follow the lecture.

UGA graduate programs ranked well by U.S. News & World Report

University of Georgia graduate programs continue to rank among the best in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report's 2013 edition of America's Best Graduate Schools. UGA's School of Public and International Affairs ranked fourth among graduate schools of public affairs; the College of Education ranked 38th, up from 46th last year; the School of Law ranked 34th, up one position from last year; and the Terry College of Business ranked 57th nationwide.
