The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center at the University of Georgia will observe Transgender Awareness Month with a guest speaker and display on Nov. 19 and 20.

"There's No Place Like Homecoming" is the theme of this year's Homecoming Week festivities, which begin Nov. 3. Activities for students are scheduled throughout the week, and the weekend features events for alumni and the Nov. 9 football game against Appalachian State University, which will feature the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen.

The University of Georgia Tate Student Center will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Oct. 23 with a ceremony and a day of activities for students. The official program is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Tate Plaza and is open to the entire UGA community

Sylvia M. Hutchinson, a professor emerita, has been named director of academic partnerships and initiatives at the University of Georgia. She will join the Division of Student Affairs staff to coordinate a new strategic priority to formalize and strengthen partnerships with campus academic units, according to an announcement by Victor K. Wilson, UGA vice president for student affairs.

EmmaKate Few of Augusta has been named Miss University of Georgia Outstanding Teen for 2014. The 15-year-old sophomore at Aquinas High School is the daughter of Samuel "Trey" and Indee Few.

The ninth annual Athens Volunteer Fair will be held Sept. 18 from 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the University of Georgia Tate Student Center's Grand Hall. The event will introduce students to volunteer opportunities with dozens of campus-based service groups as well as Athens-area nonprofit, social service and government agencies.

The University of Georgia Center for Student Organizations will hold its annual Fall Activities Fair Aug. 28 from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on the Tate Student Center Plaza, North and West Lawns. The fair is designed to encourage students to become involved in campus clubs and organizations.

More than 15 registered student organizations and campus departments at the University of Georgia will partner for a campus-wide volunteer effort, Dawg Day of Service, on Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will participate in 18 community service opportunities around the Athens area.

An outdoor film, comedians, a magician and a road-trip-themed Dawgs After Dark will headline this year's Big Dawg Welcome week held Aug. 11-16 for students at the University of Georgia. The events are sponsored by the University Union Student Programming Board and are free for students with valid UGACards who pay activity fees on the Athens campus.

Legion Pool at the University of Georgia will open on May 23 for the summer season. Hours of operation are 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. daily through July 31, and 2-7 p.m. Aug. 1-8.

Campus Kitchen at UGA was named the University of Georgia's "Organization of the Year" during the 12th Annual H. Gordon and Francis S. Davis Student Organization Achievement and Recognition Awards, given out April 10 at the Tate Student Center. The hunger relief student organization, launched in March 2011, also received an award for "Outstanding Service to the Community."
