Candlelight memorial service will be held for students, faculty and staff

Twenty-four University of Georgia students, faculty and staff members who died since last April will be honored at the university's annual candlelight memorial service April 27 at 7 p.m. on the steps of the Chapel.

Hanna Holley crowned Miss University of Georgia 2017

Hanna Holley, a third-year public relations student from Dublin was crowned Miss University of Georgia 2017 at the annual scholarship pageant held Jan. 21 in the UGA Fine Arts Auditorium. A 2014 graduate of West Laurens High School, she is the daughter of Dennis and Dawn Holley.

The University of Georgia has been named the top tier one research institution in the nation in Victory Media's Military Friendly Schools 2017 rankings. The designation recognizes the university for its outstanding commitment to and programs for student veterans and their families.

Homecoming Week is steeped in pride and tradition

University of Georgia Homecoming Week 2016-"Home is Where the Arch Is"- gets underway Oct. 10 with a variety of activities and events to appeal to all members of the university community. Activities for students are scheduled throughout the week, and the weekend features events for alumni and the Oct. 15 football game against Vanderbilt, including the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen.

Legion Pool to open May 26 for summer season

Legion Pool at the University of Georgia will open on May 26 for the summer season. Hours of operation are 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Aug. 1 and 3-7 p.m. Aug. 2-7.

University of Georgia students have elected the Commit ticket to the executive branch of the Student Government Association for the 2016-2017 academic year. The ticket consists of President-elect Houston Gaines, Vice President-elect Jacob Fucetola and Treasurer-elect Sehar Ali.

The University of Georgia will celebrate Black History Month 2016-"Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories"-with a wide variety of programs and activities across campus, including a keynote address by scholar and journalist Marc Lamont Hill and a gala celebration of the Harlem Renaissance.
