Harvard sociologist to deliver UGA’s inaugural Hollowell LectureHarvard sociologist William Julius Wilson will deliver the inaugural University of Georgia Donald L. Hollowell Lecture April 2 at 7 p.m. in the Mahler Auditorium of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel. Wilson, the Lewis P. and Linda L. Geyser University Professor at Harvard University, will give an address titled "Affirmative Opportunity in the Barack Obama Era." A reception, which begins at 6 p.m., will precede the lecture, which is free and open to the public. |

UGA’s Carney creates virtual community to aid decision making in local countiesMichelle Mohr Carney, professor and director of the Institute for Nonprofit Organizations in the School of Social Work at the University of Georgia, was awarded UGA's Public Service and Outreach Fellowship this semester. Through the fellowship, Carney is developing a model for local counties to map their assets on top of census data, creating a virtual community for county leaders to use to make decisions and identify resources and services for citizens in their communities. |
