Athens, Ga. – Applications are available for the 2012 Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant, an official Miss America preliminary pageant.

Applications may be obtained at the Tate Student Center information desk or on the Miss UGA website at www.missuga.uga.edu. Completed applications should be brought to an orientation meeting on Sept. 11 at 2:30 p.m. in room 137 of the Tate Student Center or returned in advance to the business office for the Dean of Students, room 320 of the Tate Student Center.

The pageant will be held Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Tate Student Center. The 2012 pageant is being held several months earlier than previous pageants to accommodate changes in the Miss Georgia organization.

The top finalists in the pageant will receive a minimum of $2,000 in scholarships.

The Miss America Organization at the local, state and national levels represents the largest private scholarship foundation for women in the U.S. This year, scholarship assistance totaling more than $47 million was available to contestants at all three levels. The Miss America Organization, established in 1921, is a nonprofit civic corporation.

The winner of the Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant competes in the Miss Georgia Pageant, which culminates with the Miss America Pageant held each year in January.
