Carl Vinson Institute of Government takes on all state agency training and development

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government is assuming all state agency training and development under an expanded partnership with the State Personnel Administration.

The new arrangement focuses on providing state agencies with instructional opportunities that emphasize performance, integrity, customer service, and employee retention according Wes Wynens, Vinson Institute state government program manager. “In addition to the leadership development programming already in place, we will offer management, computer, and administrative support training, and coaching and assessment services,” he said.

The Vinson Institute will deliver SPA’s existing open enrollment classes through December. A new schedule of classes for January through June will be announced in November.

A new scholarship program for state employees sponsored by SPA will reduce pricing for many of the courses by as much as 50 percent. “Strong leadership is especially critical to state government in difficult times,” said Jim Lientz, chief operating officer for Georgia. “We realize that agencies are facing considerable financial pressures and wanted to do something to help them continue developing their leaders.”
