Emma Laing, clinical professor and director of dietetics in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, spoke with Health about whether beef tallow is healthier than seed oils.
“Choosing one over the other is nuanced and is dependent on a person’s lifestyle, behavior and environmental circumstances,” she said.
Beef tallow and seed oils such as canola or soybean have similar calorie counts.
“However, beef tallow has more choline, vitamin D, cholesterol and saturated fat, whereas seed oils have more vitamin E, vitamin K and unsaturated fatty acids [omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids],” Laing said.
