Director of dietetics talks benefits of cooking at home

Emma Laing

Emma Laing, the director of dietetics and an associate professor in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, was recently quoted in a Consumer Reports article about the benefits of cooking at home instead of going out to eat.

“There are many benefits to cooking at home,” Laing said.

Laing also said that cooking at home can give people “more control over the ingredients.”

“It can be soothing to engage all of your senses in a purposeful activity,” she said.

The article offered some tips to make the most of home cooking and discussed issues like food security and the novel coronavirus pandemic’s effect on people’s eating habits.
