Educational association attacks no-politicking rules at U. of Illinois

Guidelines in place at the University of Illinois barring employees from showing political activity have come under fire from the American Association of University Professors, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The rules, which restrict faculty, staff and graduate employees from wearing T-shirts and campaign buttons and attending political rallies, have had a “chilling effect” on the institution’s three campuses in Chicago, Springfield and Urbana-Champaign, said the group’s president, Cary Nelson, who is also a professor at the Urbana-Champaign campus
