India’s new universities to mark a departure from old model

Fourteen new universities scheduled to be established in India throughout the next few years will depart from the country’s old model by featuring less red tape and more academic freedom, the Indian Express reported.

In addition, the new universities will feature a semester system, private financial support and the freedom to offer faculty members incentives in addition to pay. It is expected that many of the changes will be incorporated into the country’s existing universities as well, the paper reported.
