McCrackin receives 2020 Joseph J. Garvey Management Award

Mary Ann “M.A.” McCrackin, director of University Research Animal Resources and professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s department of population health, was selected to receive the 2020 Joseph J. Garvey Management Award by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.

“I am gratified to receive this award because it acknowledges my care and support for employees and colleagues working with research animals, something I value highly and aspire to live daily,” said McCrackin, who arrived at UGA in December 2019. “I am simultaneously humbled because I recognize that my success as a leader is dependent on the great teams and talented individuals I have been fortunate to serve over my career.”

Named after the AALAS’s first executive secretary, Joseph J. Garvey, this award recognizes an individual for their outstanding accomplishments in administration, management or the support of programs relating to the care, quality or humane treatment of animals used in biomedical research.

McCrackin will receive her award at the AALAS national meeting this fall.
