Media Advisory: Dilworth final show to air Feb. 6

Athens, Ga. – Last weekend’s inclement weather forced the University of Georgia’s WNEG-TV to cancel the final airing of The Billy Dilworth Show. The station has announced plans to air Dilworth’s final show this Saturday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m., with a repeat performance set to air at 10 p.m.

Dilworth, the legendary Georgia journalist and broadcaster, is retiring after more than 50 years in print, radio and television journalism, including nearly 20 years as host of The Billy Dilworth Show.

The 75-year-old Dilworth is stepping down from his long-running show due to health reasons.

Michael Castengera, University of Georgia telecommunications lecturer and WNEG-TV general manager, said the station would continue the tradition established by Dilworth, with a Saturday night show to be called WNEG Saturday Night. The new show will debut on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. with many of the community-oriented elements Dilworth originated.

WNEG-TV now broadcasts from the UGA campus in Athens and is owned by UGARF Media Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of the University of Georgia Research Foundation. Visit the station online at www.wnegtv.com.
