University Health Center to host meeting of Southern College Health Association

The University Health Center is hosting the 2011 Southern College Health Association meeting March 17-19 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel. The annual meeting, last held at UGA in 1997, brings together health professionals from around the Southeast to address pertinent issues affecting college health.

This year’s theme is “Exploring a New Decade of Innovation in College Health.” The program features presentations on topics including mobile-based college health interventions, electronic health records and the impact of health care reform on the future of college health.

The keynote address will be given by Jay Bernhardt, a renowned expert in health marketing, who will discuss recent innovations in communication technology and the positive impact on student health. A former director of the CDC’s health marketing division, Bernhardt is currently a professor at the University of Florida where he directs the Center for Digital Health.

Other invited speakers include W. Keith Campbell, chair of UGA’s psychology department chair, who will discuss narcissism and the millennial generation. Max Reiboldt, president and CEO of the Coker Group, a national health care consulting firm, will talk about recent policies and procedures in health care reform that will affect the future of medical practices. UGA alumnus Dan Thurmon, author and president of Motivation Works Inc. will close the meeting with an interactive presentation entitled, “Off Balance-On Purpose.”
