Michigan university releases its annual list of ‘words to be banished’

Lake Superior State University released its annual List of Words to be Banished from the Queen’s Language for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness on Dec. 31.

More phrases than words, the tongue-in-cheek list includes “trending,” “fiscal cliff,” “spoiler alert,” “bucket list,” “kick the can down the road” and “job creators/creation.”

The list, according to an LSSU news release, is compiled from nominations sent to the university throughout the year. The university has released its list annually on New Year’s Eve since 1976.
