Mississippi colleges: $675.5 million to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina

According to estimates by the Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, the effects of Hurricane Katrina will cost the state’s public and private institutions $675.5 million. The board estimated at least $440.8 million of the damages directed to public universities, $47.2 million to community colleges and almost $7 million to private institutions. Administrators from four institutions that received the highest amount of damage along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi are preparing to resume classes over the next several weeks.
