Reception for new women faculty to be held Sept. 5 at Tate Student Center

The Institute for Women’s Studies will host its 2008 New Women Faculty Reception on Sept. 5 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in Reception Hall of the Tate Student Center.

Open to the university community, the reception is an opportunity to welcome women faculty hired in the past academic year. This event helps new faculty to learn about UGA and Athens, as well as meet other scholars and potential research or teaching collaborators.

At this year’s reception, the IWS will honor Patricia Bell-Scott and Tricia Lootens, two faculty members who have been centrally involved in women’s studies for many years.

Bell-Scott, recently retired professor emeritus of child and family development and women’s studies, was a founding member of the National Women’s Studies Association and served on the UGA faculty for 17 years. Lootens, professor of English and Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor, has served as an affiliate faculty member in women’s studies since coming to UGA in 1988.
