International Street Festival to showcase multicultural food, music and dance

International Street Festival 2014-h
International Street Festival is held annually in downtown Athens.

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia’s department of International Student Life will host the 17th Annual International Street Festival on April 11 from noon-5 p.m. on College Avenue in downtown Athens. Last year’s festival drew more than 7,000 attendees.

More than 20 international and multicultural student organizations will sponsor interactive cultural displays as well as music and dance performances. The festival is free and open to the public.

“We are excited to once again provide UGA and the Athens community with student performances and table activities that help showcase the cultural diversity here at UGA,” said Justin Jeffery, director of International Student Life.

“This year we are excited to add the element of food, and we have partnered with UGA Food Services to showcase the culinary talents held by our chefs,” he said. “It is our hope that by adding cultural food options we are setting the foundation for larger street festivals in the future and helping to expand the cultural experience that visitors will get from attending this event.”

The ISL office was formed in 1997 to support UGA’s goal of fostering a campus climate that appreciates and promotes an interdependent global society. The office strives to create a welcoming environment by providing opportunities for the interaction of international students with U.S. students. International Student Life is a department within UGA Student Affairs. For more information, call 706-542-5867 or see http://isl.uga.edu/.
