Research volunteers

The department of kinesiology is recruiting volunteers to participate in a study to test whether electrical-stimulation exercise therapy reduces the risk of diabetes in paralyzed individuals.

Study participants will have an oral glucose tolerance test, MRI tests, DEXA exams, plus tests of circulation. Participants also will be taught to stimulate their leg muscles using an electrical stimulation unit.

Volunteers must have complete paralysis (either paraplegic or tetraplegic) and be between 18 and 39 years of age. They also must be diabetic or pre-diabetic.
