Shanta Dhar and Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program

Dhar
Shanta Dhar is one of two new female assistant professors joining the chemistry department this fall.

Shanta Dhar, an assistant professor of chemistry in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, received a $318,763 Idea Development Award from the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program to develop an effective method of combining chemotherapy with anti-inflammatory drugs to treat metastatic prostate cancer. Metastasis occurs when cancer cells spread from their place of origin to other places in the body. Dhar, a nanomedicine expert, will design and engineer nanoparticles that can blend and precisely deliver a combination of drugs that will target prostate cancer cells.
