UGA School of Law honors employee for outstanding service

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia School of Law Staff Council recently presented Shawn T. Lanphere with the 2008 Emma Terrell Distinguished Employee Award, which annually recognizes employees for their service to the law school.

Twelve members of the law school’s staff were nominated to receive this year’s award. Staff Council Chair Cindy F. Wentworth said Shawn regularly demonstrates many of the honor’s criteria.

One nomination stated, “She never hesitates to be the ‘go to’ person for questions, and she does so with a giving and pleasant attitude. She is a hard-working individual who gives of her own time because she understands that we are all members of a team working for the success of the students.”

Born and raised in Athens, Ga., Lanphere has been at the law school for more than eight years as an administrative assistant. Currently, she provides administrative support to eight professors.

“I am very honored to be given this award,” Lanphere said. “I was completely surprised when they called my name. I just simply love my job and working here at the law school.”

The award, formerly known as the Employee Distinguished Service Award, was renamed in February 2005 in memory of the late Emma P. Terrell, a longtime employee remembered for her dedication to and enthusiasm for the law school.

The Law School Staff Council presents this award to recognize staff members who demonstrate an outstanding work ethic, commitment to service and exceptional job performance in addition to the cooperation necessary to increase the quality of education and service provided by the law school.
