University Health Center recognizes Sexual Responsibility Week

Athens, Ga. – The University Health Center sponsor activities to support National Condom Day and promote safer sex choices among UGA students on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Health center staff and student volunteers will be in the Tate Center Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. where students will have an opportunity to participate in a number of activities focused on healthy sexuality and safer sex. Information about abstinence, sexual decision making, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraception will be provided.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, abstaining from oral, anal and vaginal sex is the most effective way to prevent STIs but the correct and consistent use of latex condoms can greatly reduce a person’s risk.

The National College Health Assessment sponsored by the American College Health Association shows that only 48.1 percent of UGA students used a condom the last time they engaged in vaginal sex and only 2.8 percent the last time they engaged in oral sex.
