University Housing launches 2012 Room-of-the-Year contest

Athens, Ga. – University Housing at the University of Georgia has joined the UGA Residence Hall Association in announcing the 2012 Room-of-the-Year and Best Video Tour contest for current residents. All students living in University Housing residence halls are eligible to participate, and grand prize winners in the categories of best male room, best female room and best video tour will be announced in mid-November.

Grand prize winners in each category will be granted first choice of available living space during University Housing’s 2013-2014 Room Sign-Up campaign, which begins in December.

A panel of University Housing employees and members of the Residence Hall Association Executive Board will select five room-of-the-year finalists in each of the male and female categories based on cleanliness, use of color, creativity and space utilization. In addition, a panel of University Housing employees and members of the Residence Hall Studios Executive Board will select the five best video tour finalists based on creativity, script, production quality and coherence. Grand prize winners will be determined by current University Housing residents via online voting on social media pages, with a limit of one vote per resident.

Key contest dates include:
Oct. 1: Deadline for photo entries in room-of-the-year categories

Oct. 15: Selection of top five finalists in best male room and best female room categories

Oct. 15: Deadline for entries in the best video tour

Oct. 29: Selection of top five videos
Nov. 2-12: Residents vote online in all categories, with tabulations ending Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
Nov. 13: Announcement of winners in all categories

According to the entry rules and requirements, only digital images of contest participant rooms will be accepted. No more than five digital photos or one video should be submitted with the online registration form with links provided to an Internet photo or video-sharing site. Some common content-sharing sites include Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, YouTube or Pinterest. Entrants are encouraged to check privacy settings and provide University Housing with permission to view photos and videos. Entries will not be valid without these permissions. Video entries also may be submitted on DVD or CD-ROM in person to the Housing Assignments Office, which is located in Russell Hall, accompanied by a completed registration form.

In addition, both residents of a double occupancy room must agree to enter the contest, though residents in single rooms or single bedrooms within suites, super suites or apartments may enter individually.
