University Housing launches annual room of the year contest

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Department of Housing and the UGA Residence Hall Association are launching the 2013 Room of the Year and Best Video Tour Contest for all current residents of University Housing.

Prizes will be awarded in the categories of Best Male Room, Best Female Room and Best Video Tour.

Room of the Year finalists will be selected by a panel of University Housing employees and members of the Residence Hall Association Executive Board based on cleanliness, use of color, creativity and space utilization. Best Video Tour finalists will be selected based on creativity, script, production quality and coherence.

Grand prize winners will be decided by online voting by current residents of University Housing, with a limit of one vote per resident.

Grand prizes in each category will be first pick of all available living in the 2013-2014 room sign-up campaign, which begins in December.

Contest Dates
Sept. 30: Photo entries for Room of the Year due by 5 p.m.
Oct. 14: Selection of top five rooms in Best Male Room and Best Female Room categories
Oct. 14: Video entries for Best Video Tour due by 5 p.m.
Oct. 28: Selection of top five videos
Nov. 1-11: Online resident voting in all categories. Counting ends Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
Nov. 12: Announcement of winners in all categories

All current residents of University Housing residence halls are invited to participate in the contest. Both residents of double occupancy rooms must agree to enter the contest, though residents in single rooms or single bedrooms within suites, supersuites or apartments may enter individually.

Only digital images of contest participant rooms will be accepted. No more than five digital photos or one video should be submitted with the online registration form with links provided to an Internet photo or video-sharing sites like Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, YouTube or Pinterest. Contest participants should adjust privacy settings on online photos and videos so judges can view them. Alternatively, photos of rooms can be emailed to hsgcntst@uga.edu with entrants’ names, hall, room number, phone number, UGA email address and contest category.

Video entries also can be submitted on DVD or CD-ROM in person to the Housing Assignments Office located in Russell Hall, accompanied by a completed entry form.

Final selection of winners in all categories will be decided by online voting in the form of “liking” by current residents of University Housing on the department’s social media pages.
