University of Pittsburgh alumnus pledges $125 million donation

William S. Deitrich II, a former steel industry executive, announced plans to donate $125 million to the University of Pittsburgh after his death, The Chronicle
of Higher Education
reported.

The gift, the largest in the institution’s history, moves Pittsburgh’s capital campaign to $1.85 billion, within striking distance of its $2 billion goal. In Dietrich’s honor, the institution plans to rename its school of arts and sciences after him.
