In a New York Times story about sweet onions, Cliff Riner, coordinator for the UGA Vidalia Onion and Vegetable Research Center, lauded the reputation of the South Georgia onion.
The article compares the Vidalia onion to other sweet onions such as the Walla Walla onion, which is grown in parts of Washington and Oregon.
“It’s not a bad onion, and you wouldn’t mind eating one,” Riner said of the Walla Walla. “But if you’re picking out one you want to feed to guests, there’s no comparison (to Vidalia onions).”
