Yale promises to pay public college tuition for New Haven students

To help its local community’s future work force, Yale University has promised to donate $4 million every year through 2014 to a program that pays for tuition at a public university in Connecticut for New Haven, Conn., students, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

To receive the assistance from the New Haven Promise program, students must maintain a B average in high school and meet other academic and service requirements. The program is the result of efforts by the city’s mayor, school superintendent and the university.
