ATHENS, Ga. – The African American Cultural Center at the University of Georgia will hold its annual Rite of Sankofa Celebration on Friday, May 7. The ceremony is based on an African rite of passage in which graduates celebrate the successful conclusion of their college careers. The keynote speaker will be Mary Frances Early, the first African American to graduate from UGA.
The Rite of Sankofa will begin at 6 p.m. in the Georgia Hall of the Tate Student Center. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
