University will host Earth Week activities

As part of Athens’ month-long celebration of GreenFest, UGA will host Earth Week 2012 from April 16-22 with daily events and activities open to all members of the campus and local communities. This year’s theme is “Watch Your Step.”

Highlights include a hands-on restoration of historic Town Spring, April 16 from 3:30-5 p.m.; local food day with an outdoor fair at Brooks Mall, April 17 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Car Free Day with a commuter check-in, prizes and free bike tune-ups at Memorial Hall Plaza April 18 from 7:30-9:30 a.m.; Recycling Happy Hour, a drive-thru event for recycling personal electronics (including TVs), batteries, fluorescent bulbs, cooking grease and Styrofoam, at the Intramural Fields April 19 from 5-7 p.m.; a fair at the plaza of the Tate Student Center April 20 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; a Green Day of Service where volunteers will help build local community and school gardens April 21 from 9 a.m.-noon and 12:30-4:30 p.m.; and a “Trashion Show” that displays local clothing designs made from hard-to-recycle materials at Athica, 160 Tracy St., April 22 at 4:30 p.m. For more events and details, visit www.sustainability.uga.edu.
