The 2017 Getzen Lecture on Government Accountability will be given April 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel. Sponsored annually by the public administration and policy department in the School of Public and International Affairs, this year’s lecture will be given by Charles H. Ramsey, a nationally recognized innovator, educator and practitioner of community policing. Open free to the public, the lecture will be followed by a reception at Founders Memorial Garden.
Ramsey is the former commissioner of the Philadelphia police department and former chief of the Metropolitan police department of the District of Columbia. A native of Chicago, Ramsey began his career as an 18-year-old cadet in the Chicago police department where he later served as a patrol officer, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. Additionally, he served as the commander of the narcotics section before spending two years as a deputy chief of the police force’s patrol division. In 1994, he was appointed deputy superintendent.
The Getzen Lecture on Government Accountability is an annual lecture series made possible by UGA alumni Katherine Getzen Willoughby and Dan Hall Willoughby Jr. in honor of her parents, Evangeline Sferes Getzen and Forrest William Getzen, lifelong advocates of public service and education.
