After nearly 40 years of operation as a nonprofit organization, the American Association for Higher Education will disband.
AAHE officials say the decision to close in May is tied to a decline in membership. Since the 1990s, the AAHE has seen its membership base fall from a high of approximately 10,000 members to its current 6,000.
Many of the projects AAHE is spearheading will be transferred to colleges and other associations. The fate of the group’s magazine, Change, still has to be determined.
