Alumnus to discuss Peace Corps service

UGA alumnus Matthew Wood will participate in an event to share his service overseas in the Peace Corps. Open free to the public, the information session will be held Feb. 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. in Room 214 of the Miller Learning Center.

Wood currently is serving in Ecuador as an environmental education volunteer.

President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961 to foster a better understanding among Americans and people of other countries. Peace Corps volunteers work at the grassroots level with local governments, schools, communities, small businesses and entrepreneurs to develop sustainable solutions that address challenges in education, health, economic development, agriculture, environment and youth development. To date, 570 UGA alumni have served abroad as volunteers. In 2013, UGA ranked No. 17 among large colleges and universities whose alumni currently volunteer worldwide.
