Andy Landers, a Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame member and former coach of UGA’s women’s basketball program, is one of 14 honorees on this year’s Southeastern Conference Class of Women’s Legends list.
A four-time National Coach of the Year, Landers amassed 944 career wins during coaching stops at Roane State Community College (1975-1979) and UGA (1979-2015). The win total ranks fifth in the history of NCAA women’s basketball.
After becoming the first full-time head coach of women’s basketball at UGA in 1979, Landers led his teams to 31 NCAA tournaments, five Final Four appearances, 17 top-10 finishes, seven SEC titles and four SEC tournament championships.
This year’s Class of Women’s Legends, which is made up of student-athletes, coaches and administrators from around the league, will be honored at the 2016 SEC women’s basketball tournament, which runs from March 2-6 in Jacksonville, Florida.
