For the first time in several years, British participation rates in higher education programs among young people have increased, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.
According to numbers from the British government’s Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, about 45 percent of 17-to-30-year-olds participate in some form of post-secondary education, up from 43 percent in the 2007-2008 academic year. Of that increase, males increased their participation to 40 percent from 38 percent and females jumped to 51 percent from 49 percent. The numbers reflect what officials hope is a growing trend to reach the stated goal of 50 percent participation among young people, the Chronicle reported.
