Known as one of the top political science experts in the nation, Charles Bullock is marking a milestone in his career.

A University Professor in the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia, Bullock is entering his 51st year in the classroom. A celebration of his career was held Friday evening in Atlanta.

No, he is not retiring. He remains passionate about the importance of hands-on learning.  Bullock has helped hundreds of students obtain internships at the state Capitol and elsewhere, often resulting in the connections and experience that launched their careers.

The national news media often call on him to provide insight into the political issues of the day. As an expert, especially in Southern politics, he has been quoted in hundreds of publications, including The New York Times, Washington Post and Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In addition, Bullock is a keen advocate for the value of studying abroad. Having taught in the Verona, Italy, study abroad program since 2000 and two years at Oxford, Bullock has seen firsthand how this type of experience can be life-changing.

Bullock holds the Richard B. Russell Chair in Political Science and is the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor and University Professor at the University of Georgia. He has been at UGA since 1968, with the exception of two years when he was professor of political science at the University of Houston. In 2005 and 2009 he was a senior Fellow at Oxford University’s Rothermere American Institute.

In 2015, Bullock was named University Professor, an honor bestowed on faculty who have had a significant impact on the University of Georgia beyond normal academic responsibilities.
