Bush proposes more grant money

In his State of the Union address last week, President George W. Bush proposed increasing the amount of Pell Grants for secondary-school students who take “demanding college-preparatory courses.” The maximum award under the current Pell Grant program, which provides money for low-income students to attend college, is $4,050. Bush also proposed more federal support for community colleges to provide job training “for industries that are creating the most new jobs.”
