Casimir C. Akoh, Distinguished Research Professor in the department of food science and technology, has been elected vice president of the American Oil Chemists’ Society, an international society for fats, oils and related materials.
He will serve as vice president for 2007–2008 and prepare to serve as the next AOCS president in 2008–2009. Akoh will officially be installed as vice president during the AOCS annual meeting and expo in Quebec City, Canada, May 13-16.
The organization has approximately 5,000 members and will celebrate its 100 anniversary in 2009 during Akoh’s presidency. Akoh has served as a governing board member of the organization since 2001 and as secretary since 2004.
