CED associate professors collaborate on guide to Southern landscape plants

“Plants in Design: A Guide to Designing with Southern Landscape Plants” covers a wide variety of plant genres, spanning from grasses and perennials, to woody shrubs and trees. A guide meant to enhance the natural landscape, “Plants in Design” offers uses of plant materials and resource information for selecting plant materials for Southern landscapes.

Authors Brad E. Davis and David Nichols share their love for plants and landscapes in this guide, expressing the complexity and beauty in landscape planning. “Plants in Design” features 500 Southern landscape plants sorted into 15 categories, ranging from large trees to ferns and flowering annuals. Davis and Nichols are associate professors in the College of Environment and Design and put their years of experience in landscape teaching and development together to create this inclusive guide.

“Plants in Design” is unique in its inclusion of richly illustrated pieces that add to the descriptions of plant shape, form, characteristics and landscape use. The guide also includes drawings, a hardiness zone map, glossary, bibliography, index and design-use tables, all used to aid in cohesive landscape development for Southern plants.
