The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center returns to Athens Nov. 5 for the Payne Memorial Concert. Named for William Jackson Payne, the Franklin College dean who founded the Franklin College Chamber Music Series, the concert is free and begins at 3 p.m. in Hodgson Hall in the Performing Arts Center.

The Chamber Music Society’s program is titled “Essential String Trios” and features works by three master composers who wrote chamber music for violin, viola and cello. The concert will include works by Beethoven, Penderecki and Mozart.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is the nation’s premier repertory company for chamber music with a rotating roster of award-winning musicians. The artists performing on the Nov. 5 program will be violinist Arnaud Sussmann, violist Paul Neubauer and cellist David Finckel, who is also co-artistic director of the Chamber Music Society.

The concert will be recorded for broadcast on American Public Media’s Performance Today, the most popular classical music program in the U.S.

A pre-concert lecture will be given by Patrick Castillo from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The lecture will begin at 2:15 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall in the Performing Arts Center.

The Chamber Music Society concert is part of Spotlight on the Arts, a 12-day festival celebrating the arts at UGA.
