College of Family and Consumer Sciences honors exceptional faculty, staff and students

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences recognized several outstanding faculty, staff and students at an awards ceremony held recently.

Rick Lewis, a professor in the foods and nutrition department, was named the FACS Academic Advisor of the Year. The honor recognizes outstanding people who encourage and motivate undergraduate students in the college through advising.

Russell James, an assistant professor in the housing and consumer economics department, was named the FACS Teacher of the Year. The award recognizes faculty who have shown great skill in fostering the academic development of students.

Beverly Hull, an administrative assistant in the foods and nutrition department, received the Nettie Marie Nickols Outstanding Staff Award, which honors staff members whose work and personal interests enable others to accomplish goals.

Susan Howington, Henry County FACS Cooperative Extension agent, received the Thomas F. Rodgers Outreach Agent Award, which recognizes exceptional creativity and scholarship in the development, application and evaluation of outreach and public service programs.

Stacey McQuaig, a program assistant in Ware County with the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, received the Outreach Paraprofessional Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement of paraprofessionals in FACS outreach and Cooperative Extension programs.

Ted Futris, an assistant professor in the child and family development department and a family life specialist for Cooperative Extension, received the Outreach Faculty Award.The award honors faculty who have shown great creativity and scholarship in the development, application and evaluation of outreach and public service programs.

Priyanka Chakraborty, a graduate student in the foods and nutrition department, and Kelly Kennedy, a graduate student in the child and family development department, received the Endsley-Peifer Student Research Award. The award recognizes students whose research has made significant contributions to advancing knowledge in a specialty area in family and consumer sciences.
