The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy’s 16th annual Pharmtoberfest Health Fair will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, from noon to 3 p.m. on the D.W. Brooks Mall in front of the college and adjacent to the Science Learning Center. Sponsored by Kroger, the free event will include health screenings, health education, food, games and a special visit from Hairy Dawg.
Open to all UGA faculty, staff and students as well as the local community, Pharmtoberfest celebrates American Pharmacists Month and will include screenings for high blood pressure, high blood sugar, bone marrow donors, hepatitis C, HIV and body mass index. In addition, booths from student health groups across campus will provide information on breast cancer awareness, diabetes, smoking cessation, immunizations, sexually transmitted diseases, sleep health, over-the-counter medication safety, safe drug disposal and more.
Flu shots also will be available through the University Health Center. Interested participants are asked to bring their insurance card or $50 to offset the cost of the vaccine.
“Along with health screenings, health promotions and the flu shot, we also plan to have some fun events using carnival-themed activities,” said Cassidy Sims, president of the college’s chapter of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists, the group responsible for overseeing the event. “Of course, we are super excited that Hairy Dawg will join us this year! We encourage the entire university community to get healthy and have some fun at this year’s Pharmtoberfest.”
Parking is available in UGA’s South Campus Deck.
