Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia CORE Concert Dance Company will present its Contemporary and Aerial Dance Concert 2011 March 2-5 at 8 p.m. each evening in the new dance theatre on campus. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors, and are available at the Tate Student Center cashier’s window Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased the evening of the performances for cash only at the box office, which opens at 7 p.m.
The 2011 concert, Journeys Into the Vortex, features music, film, aerial and contemporary dance fusion as well as performances with bungee-assistance, trapeze, lyra, silks and swings. Highlighting the concert are performances by guest artists, including Meaghan Muller, formerly of Cirque de Soliel, and Mario Chacón Arias, Bailarín Compañía Nacional de Danza, Costa Rica. A special performance of CLICK (2010) by the Zoetic Dance Ensemble of Atlanta is co-choreographed by Melanie Lynch Blanchard, Zoetic director, and Onur-Topal Sumer, member of Full Radius Dance of Atlanta and co-director of Dance Camera Istanbul, Turkey.
“This concert is an excursion of good feelings and delight that explores several aural/sensory landscapes through visions, meditations and dreams,” said Bala Sarasvati, Jane Willson Professor in the Arts and artistic director of CORE.
CORE Concert Dance Company Contemporary & Aerial Dance Concert 2011 company members are Mallory Baxley, Hyeyoung Borden, Anna Bracewell, Virginia Broyles, Clinton Kyles, Alexandru Muresan, Anna Myer, Chrystola Oseni and Rebecca Pogue. Guest performers with the company are Melanie Howard and Kellie McHugh, a voice student in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Kyles, who was hired by Los Angeles-based Diavolo Dance Company in December, is returning to UGA to perform with CORE.
